Meet Dr. Brian Armitage
Dr. Armitage’s education includes an Undergraduate degree in Physiological Optics (1979), Doctor of Optometry Degree (1981) and Master of Science degree in Physiological Optics (1983) from Ohio State University.
After school, Dr. Armitage spent several years in clinical contact lens research, two years as an Instructor for The Ohio State University’s College of Optometry, two years as an Assistant Clinical Professor for The Ohio State University, and a few years practicing in Ohio before opening his own practice in Jacksonville, FL in 2004. Dr. Armitage joined our practice in 2015.
Dr. Armitage primarily practices in the Avenues Mall and Roosevelt Square Mall locations. He sees patients 5 years and older and specializes in Scleral Lenses.
Meet Dr. William Avonda
Dr. Avonda received his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in 2002. He completed a residency at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA in 2003.
Dr. Avonda has been practicing optometry for 15 years. He has worked for Columbia Eye since receiving his license in 2003. He also opened his own practice in 2016. Dr. Avonda joined Dr. Ted Brink and Associates in 2017. He works primarily at the Oaks Mall location in Gainesville.
Dr. Avonda sees patients aged 5+ years old. He specializes in ocular disease. In addition to English, Dr. Avonda speaks enough Spanish to conduct an eye exam in Spanish.
Dr. Avonda is married to his wife Debbie and has two boys, Jacob and Zachary. In his spare time, Dr. Avonda loves playing guitar and is a runner.
Meet Dr. Jeff Blalock
Dr. Blalock is a native of Salinas, California. He made his way to Florida in 1987, serving in the US Navy as an aircraft electrician.
After his military service, Dr. Blalock graduated cum laude from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN with a B.S. in Vision Science and a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997.
Dr. Blalock began his optometry career as an independent contractor until March of 2000, when he joined our practice. In 2008 he opened the Fleming Island Pearle Vision where he continues to practice today.
Dr. Blalock’s specialties include Corneal Refractive Therapy, Dry eye Therapy, Contact lens fitting, Glaucoma Treatment, Lasik and Cataract Surgical Co-Management.
Meet Dr. Susan Frick
Dr. Susan Frick is a 1987 graduate of the University of Tampa with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. After school she spent several years as the personal assistant to the managing partner of a private investment company. Dr. Frick changed careers and headed to optometry school in 1993. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Florida’s Nova Southeastern University in 1997.
Dr. Frick originally worked in our practice from 1999 to 2000. She returned in 2010 after raising her children. Dr. Frick enjoys seeing patients as young as 5 at our Mandarin location. Dr. Frick’s specialties are the diagnosis and management of Ocular Diseases and specialty contact lens fittings, including astigmatism and presbyopia.
She has been married to her loving husband for 23 years and has four children that she loves spending time with when not at work.
Meet Dr. Greg Kane
Dr. Kane received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1976. He went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in 1983.
Dr. Kane has been practicing for over 30 years and has been with Dr. Ted Brink and Associates since 2015. He works primarily at the St. Augustine office.
Dr. Kane sees patients aged 5+ years old. He speaks English and Spanish and specializes is contact lenses and medical optometry.
Dr. Kane has been married for over 40 years. He has two daughters and four grandkids. Outside of work, Dr. Kane is passionate about golfing, scuba diving, and going on volunteer optometric missions to Central America.
Meet Dr. Brad Kirchner
Dr. Kirchner received his undergraduate degree from Holy Cross College in 1972. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, he enrolled in the New England College of Optometry where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1982.
Dr. Kirchner practiced in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia for over 25 years. He joined our practice in 2008 and primarily works in the Roosevelt office.
Residing in Fleming Island with his wife Elizabeth, a registered nurse, his free time is spent swimming, golfing, an occasional home improvement project and spending time with his grandchildren.
Meet Dr. Chris Mutai
Dr. Mutai was an All American Student Athlete in Track and Cross-Country. He began his undergraduate studies at Jacksonville University in Florida before transferring to the University of Alabama where he received his B.S in Biology. He went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry from the University Of Alabama- Birmingham School Of Optometry in 2005.
Upon graduation, he worked in several multi-disciplinary clinical settings in Alabama for 5 years. Dr. Mutai joined our practice in 2010. He currently splits his time between our Mandarin and Fleming Island locations. He enjoys diagnosing and treating the disorders of the Visual System and Ocular disease. His passion is in early Glaucoma detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Dr. Mutai also serves his patients in co-management of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Mutai is a member of the Florida Optometric Association and the North East Florida Optometric Society. He enjoys spending time with his family and maintaining a competitive edge as a runner.
Meet Dr. Jack Rubin
Dr. Rubin received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in 1973.
After school, Dr. Rubin practiced in Miami for over 30 years. He joined our practice in 2010 and works in the Gainesville office. He sees patients 8 years of age and older and specializes in contact lens fitting.
Outside of work, Dr. Rubin and his wife Kristin enjoy kayaking, bonsai, old cars and cooking.
Meet Dr. Scott Thiele
Dr. Thiele attended the Illinois College Of Optometry in Chicago. He graduated with his Doctor of Optometry in 2003.
Dr. Thiele joined our practice in 2003 and has been the primary doctor in our St. Augustine office since 2009.
In his free time, Dr. Thiele enjoys working on cars and is an avid marksman.
Meet Dr. Jon Scott Walker
OD, MS, FAAO
Dr. Walker has a B.S. from Oral Roberts University and a M.S. from Southern Illinois University. He received his Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in 1984.
Dr. Walker practiced in Minnesota for several years before joining our practice in 2001. While in Minnesota, he was on the Board of Optometry for 8 years and was Minnesota Optometrist of the year in 1989. Since joining our practice, Dr. Walker has practiced at our Avenues Mall location.
Dr. Walker is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and a Member of the Florida and American Optometric Association. He has conducted over 100 Clinical Trials, published over 30 articles, and is named on 3 Patents related to Contact Lenses and Implants after Cataract Surgery. Dr. Walker is a consultant to Alcon, Bausch+Lomb, and Vistakon and has been a speaker and lecturer in the industry for 30 years. In addition, Dr. Walker is a voting member of ASCAP and is an adjunct Professor for the Arizona College of Optometry
Meet Dr. Ann-Marie Connolly
Dr. Ann-Marie Connolly is a Jacksonville native. She attended Bishop Kenny High School and Jacksonville University. Dr. Connolly is a 2017 graduate of the University Of Houston’s College Of Optometry.
While attending optometry school, Dr. Connolly found that she particularly enjoyed interacting with pediatric patients and special needs patients. Dr. Connolly is also interested in disease management, including glaucoma and diabetes. She strives to help patients have a stress-free exam while also feeling comfortable with their options regarding their ocular health care.
Dr. Connolly, the youngest of 8 children, enjoys spending time with her large family, reading, and going to the movies.
Meet Dr. Shaun Brennan
Dr. Shaun G Brennan received his undergraduate degree from Utah Valley University, in Orem Utah. Continuing his education, he received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2015 from Western University College of Optometry.
Dr. Brennan’s residency was at Malcom Randall Veteran Affairs Medical Center located in Gainesville Fl.
Dr. Brennan joined Dr. Ted Brink and Associates at our Gainesville location in January of 2016. He is residency trained in primary eye care and ocular disease. His sub specialties are low vision and the fitting of specialty contact lenses (scleral, rigid gas permeable and hybrid).
Having spent much of the last several years in Utah and California obtaining his degrees, in his free time, Dr Brennan enjoys traveling, snowboarding, and hiking.
Meet Dr. Brandon Sudduth
Dr. Brandon Sudduth was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He is an alumnus of central Washington University where he graduated with honors attaining a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He then earned his Doctorate of Optometry from the Arizona College of Optometry in Glendale, Arizona.
Dr. Sudduth furthered his training at an IHS in Lawton, OK emphasizing in diabetic care. He also trained at an MD/OD practice in Jacksonville as well as a VA in White City, OR where the emphasis was ocular disease. Dr. Sudduth began his career in Jacksonville, FL at an MD/OD practice and has gained plenty of knowledge working with an excellent surgeon. Dr. Sudduth joined Dr. Ted Brink & Associates in 2016.
Dr. Sudduth is comfortable with patients of all ages. He feels comfortable managing various diseases such as macular degeneration and glaucoma. He also fits soft, rigid, and specialty contact lenses.
In his spare time Dr. Sudduth spends his time with his wife and son riding bikes, playing soccer, and enjoying football. He enjoys cheering for the Seattle Seahawks and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
